Are you unable to move about?


If you live in or are domiciled in a health care facility or a retirement home and if you are unable to move about, you can request to vote in your room.

T hese special measures are reserved exclusively for electors residing or domiciled in a hospital centre, a residential and longterm care centre, a rehabilitation centre or a residence for senior identified in the register created under the Act respecting Health Services and Social Services.

Can you vote?

To be able to vote, you must be a qualified elector, namely be 18 years of age or older on polling day and satisfy the following conditions on September 1st, 2009 :

  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be domiciled in the municipality in which the centre or the residence is located and have resided in Québec for at least six months;
  • not be under curatorship;
  • be registered on the list of electors.

Is your name registered on the list of electors?

You can check this by consulting the notice of entry that you receive or by contacting your returning officer. Remember that in order to be able to vote, you must be entered on the list of electors at the address of this institution. Check carefully! It's your responsibility.

You have to contact your returning officer. Contact him for the deadline for submitting this application.

Important! You must enclose with your application for registration a photocopy of two identification documents.

Are you unable to move about and do wish to vote in your room or in your apartment?

Simply apply to your returning officer. Contact your returning officer to know the deadline for submitting an application.

To vote, you will have to establish your identity by presenting one of the following documents:

  • your health insurance card;
  • your driver’s licence;
  • your Canadian passport;
  • your certificate of Indian status;
  • your Canadian Forces Identification Card.

If you do not have one of these documents with you, you have to declare under oath that you are the elector entered on the list of electors. In addition, you will have to either:

  • be accompanied by a person who can identify himself by presenting one of the aforementioned documents and attest, under oath, to your identity;
  • present two documents mentioning your name and one of which contains your photo;
  • present two documents mentioning your name and together proving the address of your centre and your date of birth.
