Mission of the DGE at the time of the municipal polls

On the municipal level, the Chief Electoral Officer’s responsibilities are somewhat different from the provincial one. He does not administer municipal elections directly, but provides training and offers support to municipal returning officers.

The Chief Electoral Officer monitors electoral financing and expenses in municipalities with 5,000 inhabitants or more. He provides training and support to municipal treasurers, official agents, and official representatives of parties and candidates. Furthermore, municipal treasurers assist the Chief Electoral Officer in administering the legislative provisions especially regarding receiving and reviewing financial reports and returns of election expenses.
